Seeing Ourselves As God Sees Us
Rom. 12:3.

“Objectivity” is a valuable thing in life generally.
We have a problem anytime we have a wrong or inadequate “perspective” on things. When our “vantage point” is poor, we can be greatly hindered in seeing life properly.
a. One thing we seriously need to see objectively is ourselves.
(A) When it comes to seeing ourselves we can go to two extremes.
(1) #1, We may think too little of ourselves.
(a) A good Bible illustration is 1 Cor. 12:15-16.
Thinking little of your self and your God-given abilities can easily loose your sense of self worth and drop out.
#2, We may think too much of ourselves.
Again Paul gives an good Bible illustration in 1 Cor. 12:21.
Thinking to much of your self can lead to pride and a bloated sense of self worth that’s filled with hot air and blown completely out of proportion.
We need to think soberly about ourselves.
Again we fall back on Paul’s Holy Spirit guided words to give us the proper perspective on things.
Rom. 12:3.
That basically means learning to see ourselves as God sees us — His view of us is complete and perfect.
Heb. 4:13.
What are some things about ourselves that we need to see more accurately?
We need to understand our nature. Who we are and what we are.
We are beings made in God’s own image. Gen. 1:27, reminds us of our origin.
That’s a reminder of the fact that we are persons, not things.
We have dignity and honor. No matter who we are, we have an identity as God’s created child.
I need to remember that I am a creature who sins. And sin separates me from God.
(A) My habit, propensity, bent is to sin. I need to have the proper view, attitude about sin.
(1) Again the Bible gives me the best example of a proper attitude about sin.
(a) We need the attitude of David when it comes to dealing with my sin problem
Hear David’s heart as he prays for God’s guidance: Ps. 26:2; Ps. 139:1;
Ps. 139: 23-24.
We need God’s help in seeing our sins as they really are. Ps. 19:12-13.
When it comes to our individual worth no one is better than anyone else. The last thing God needs in the Church is a bunch of religious snobs who, because of their ancestry, political status, financial or social standing, educational accomplishments think they are somebody and better than every body else.
If you are in Christ you are already somebody and those things don’t amount to a hill of beans. In fact those things become a hindrance, detriment to your soul if you start measuring you worth by those standards.
You don’t count your worth, or another person’s worth by the thickness of their pocket book or by the height of their social and carnal accomplishments in life
or by the praise and standing given by worldly people in the community.
(2) In Rev. 3:7-13. The Church at Philadelphia was small, persecuted, talked about, hated by those who claimed to be the people of God, but who in fact, were not.
(1) God blessed them, prospered and enabled them because they kept the faith.

(1) All others looked down on this congregation as being small, narrow minded, insignificant and unworthy of any acknowledgment.
(2) But, God said, “I will honor and exalt you because you are faithful.”
(2) We need to see ourselves as God sees us congregationally, as well as individually.
(1) Often it’s extremely uncomfortable to see ourselves as God does. If we refuse to do that we can quickly and easily lose our souls.
(2) Jno. 8:32, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
(3) Know the Truth that teaches us about God and what is His will for us.
(4) Know the truth about what we have been, what we are and what we can be.
(5) Know the truth, The real truth about yourself and your relationship with God.
(6) Know your sacred relationship and responsibility to one another as opposed to your relationship to other people in the world. Prefer one another above all others in this world.
(7) Acts 20:32.
