The Parable of the Pearls
A. The five year old little girl loved her toy pearls. They made
her feel special and grown up. She wore them everywhere ? Sunday
school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she
took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath.
Mom said if they got
wet, they might turn her neck green.
Every night when she was ready for bed, her daddy would read her
a story. One night after the story, he asked her, "Honey,
do you love me?" "Oh yes, Daddy," she responded.
"Then give me your pearls," he asked. "Oh, Daddy,
not my pearls. How 'bout Princess ? the white horse from my collection.
The one with the pink tail. Remember, Daddy? "That's
okay, honey. Daddy loves you. Good night."
About a week later, after the story time, her daddy asked again,
"Do you love me honey?"
"Oh yes Daddy! I love you and Mommy." "Then would
you give me your pearls?" "Oh
Daddy, not my pearls. How 'bout my baby doll. The brand new one
I got for my birthday?"
"That's okay sweetie. Sleep well my precious one."
A few nights later when her daddy came in, she was sitting on
the bed with her head down and legs crossed. As he came close,
he noticed her chin quivering as a lone tear rolled gently down
her cheek. "What is it, honey? What's wrong?" She didn't
say a word as she lifted her little hand toward her dad. And when
she opened it, there was her little toy necklace. And with a whisper
she finally said, "Here, Daddy. It's for you."
As tears gathered in his own eyes, he reached out to take the
dime?store necklace, and with the other hand reached into his
pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine
pearls that he had been waiting to give her all along.
Matt 7:7?12, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and
you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone
who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks
it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his
son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a
fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your
Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
3. He who has an ear to hear...let him hear.
